As the presidential elections approach, it’s inevitable that we ate going to receive an onslaught of information about various candidate’s promises, which most definitely will mention the American Dream. The American Dream is the idea that anyone can make a successful living with hard work and determination.
It’s a dream in its unrestricted idealism but also in something that many immigrants and citizens of the nation hope to achieve. There are many who succeed at achieving it, like the man on House Hunters who was the first in his family to ever own a home or many other people like Kevin Durant and Kendrick Lamar and John D. Rockefeller. These people face countless obstacles with all odds stacked against them. Everything says that they should fail but they don’t.
A few months ago, while attempting to come up with a good college essay, I contemplated what it would be like to lead a disadvantaged life, only to realize that those successful people were in the vast majority. If they had the same drive and determination and grew up in the same environment as I did, their successes would be even greater.
